François Devienne's Flute Concerto No. 7 in E minor [Digital Download]
Born of humble origins in 1759, François Devienne emerged from the upheaval of the late 18th century as a highly respected and influential musician. Notable for being the first flute professor at the newly organized Paris Conservatory in 1795, he had a profound impact on the development of the craft with his Nouvelle Méthode de Flûte Théorique et Pratique. He wrote at least a dozen flute concertos in the prevalent classical style from the time, an auspicious development considering Mozart famously did not like writing for the instrument.
This edition was premièred by my friend and colleague Allison Miller with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra in Saskatchewan, Canada on November 20, 2022. I thank the orchestra for their generous support which made this publication possible.
Contains the full orchestra set: Score, solo flute, 2 oboes, 2 horns in E, and strings.
